Tough Mudder 2011 – Reflections and Lessons Learned 2

Tough Mudder 2011 has been digitized.

The Good: It was really fun and harder than I thought it would be. I really liked that the focus was on the team rather than individual and getting a better time.

The Bad: The lines on some of the obstacles were crazy. Some lines were half an hour or longer; although, for some reason, we were able to walk right up to the ice bath…

The Ugly: I wish they would make a bigger deal about keeping trash off the mountain. There were cups from the aid stations all over the mountain.

Would I do it over again? Yes, I think so. I would want to be with teammates like Prascilla and Eileen who know the point of the race. Also starting a little earlier would be better so that we could do the whole course (we didn’t get to do a few of the last obstacles because we got to them after 4:30 PM). Also I think next time, tighter fitting shirts are better and I will carry a regular size pack with water, food and one warm layer. Finally, some sort of training that involves more running after doing activities like swimming.

Alternatives: At one point in my younger years, I hiked/ran from Sugar Bowl to Squaw Valley then got on my road bike at Squaw Valley and rode back on the road to Truckee then up Old Donner Pass Hwy back to Sugar Bowl and my car. If anyone is interested in doing that let me know, I think we have a little time left this year before we get snow. The bike leg isn’t necessary, I just didn’t have anyone to go with so I self-shuttled. There are also a number of hikes that are really cool in that area if the SB to SV hike is too crazy.

It was GREAT to see you guys there!!! I agree with everything you said and I think about 5,000 others would agree too!

We definitely plan to go back to do the entire route next year – we got the cut off too because the lines were so long. Our strategy is an earlier start time and if the wait is longer than 10-15 minutes at any obstacle go around it!

The people definitely made the event! It was like doing a 4 hour CF WOD with everyone pushing you and helping you! Tons of fun!

    All our best from CFWG!!!

Audra, It was great to see you at the race. The end of the race was a little bit crazy but it was fun seeing a bunch of friends. Hope to see you before next years race.
