Fine-Tuning Your DL 1

This week we are fine-tuning the DL by adding some speed during the workouts. There are a number of very good tutorials on deadlifting on the Interwez (here and here) that tell you how to deadlift correctly. However, as you start going faster, for instance, in a workout like Diane, or heavier, we see some issues coming up that we need to review.

The first issue is no matter how you tweek the DL, whether with speed or load, the back position should never change (unless you are in a powerlifting competition). If you don’t think that is likely, watch Annie Sakamoto in the CrossFit Games this weekend. Her DLs are fast and oh so pretty. The workout video posted shows that as the load increases your back position should stay the same.

Second issue, try to keep your chin tucked in during your DL. In the video, I explain how to do that and why it is so important.

Let us know if you have any questions on how to fine tune your DL.
