Today I walked up to massage school to find two of my fellow students smoking outside. I said hi and we chatted for a while before we went up to class. My first thought is “what the heck are you going to help anyone with massage when you can’t even figure out how to quit smoking?” Well, if it was that easy, everyone would be doing it. Maybe today is their last day of smoking? Who knows where they are in the journey towards being healthy and happy. These things take time…
Tomorrow, Susan is going to teach her Living with Vision class (some of you have taken it) to some young women who are at risk of spending some real time in jail. I am so proud of her because at first, she did this class once a year, then it was twice a year, now it has been two times this last week. In a few years, it will be just one of the coaching classes she teaches each week. It is her vision to teach coaching classes and I have no doubt she will execute on that vision.
I know we would love to be able to bust out muscle-ups or push-ups or a body weight snatch. Or lose 30 lbs for a wedding or vacation. Sometimes, if you work hard on something, you can achieve a goal in a few months, sometimes it takes years to make a change. And sometimes, all you can do is manage the symptoms.
Anything worth doing will take time, how much, I don’t know, as long as it takes I guess. Keep doing what you really want to do, what you’ve always dreamed of doing, because one day, after a while, maybe a long while, it might just happen just like you planned.
