Joan’s Casual Stretching Classes 4

We had a great time at Joan’s first class and we are continuing them every week that she can do them. Check on the calendar or at the gym for the current schedule.

Not sure what the Stretching class is? Joan breaks it down for you real simple so even a guy like me can understand:

Take it from the world’s stiffest gymnast, stretching sucks! BUT… stretching is the key to staying injury free by being able to achieve correct positions on technically challenging movements… like what we do in our strength and conditioning training, e.g. squatting, cleans, snatches, pull ups, ring dips, burpess, etc. etc. etc.

The purpose of this class is simple:

  • Remind you of how fun it is to sit on the floor and all the various positions you can try while down there. Hey, you can even try these at home with the kiddos while reading or watching TV. (If kiddos get into the action, note how flexible they are. Why/how do we lose that?!)
  • Find out where you say “holy crap that’s tight!” That is where you should focus your stretching time. And, once I get to know you and your spots, we will (please picture a sadistic smile on my face here!)
  • Find out where you say “but Joan/Saul/applicable-coaches-name, I can’t feel that…” Rejoice for having at least one area where your mobility might be good enough (first we will check to see if you are positioned correctly!).
  • Lastly, because stretching sucks and you are likely to avoid it even more than exercise, it is WAY more fun to do it in a group… the exact same reason many of us have for attending MDSF for our strength and conditioning!

Every class will start with some dynamic warm up like we do at the beginning of each MDSF workout, we will roll out, and then we will commence the torture… I mean mobility work.

Joan’s schedule for the casual stretching is as follows (classes are usually a hour long but, hey, it’s casual so we just know when it starts):

Thursday, Feb. 10 at 6 PM

Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 7 PM

Thursday, Feb. 24 at 6 PM

Thursday, Mar. 3 at 6 PM

Having trouble getting fired up for the stretching class, watch this video.

See you at the next class!
