Joining Classes at Mad Dawg School of Fitness

Why can’t I start in a CrossFit class right away?

Because our focus is on quality of instruction, safety, and effectiveness, entry into CrossFit classes is tightly controlled. Clients with no previous CrossFit experience must either progress through the Fundamentals Bootcamp Program or through personal training before being eligible to join the ‘All Levels’ CrossFit classes.

In Fundamentals Bootcamp or personal training, you’ll become familiar with the training program, as well as learn excellent technique for the CrossFit program’s foundational exercises. This will ensure that both you and your training partners are able to train to fullest potential.

I’m super fit. I run, bike, and do yoga. Can’t I just waive the Fundamentals Bootcamp Program and start CrossFit classes?

In order to ensure your safety and have you train to your fullest potential, we have established standards that must be met in order to gain entry to our ongoing group CrossFit classes. Our Fundamentals Bootcamp program is designed to teach you proper technique that will prevent injury as you increase load and increase intensity in your workouts.

We believe we owe you, and all of our clients, the best group training possible.  If you feel you already have a solid grasp of the lifts and believe you’re ready to join group CrossFit classes, read below.

I’m an experienced CrossFitter / Lifter – can I start classes right away?

We’d love to have you join our group classes!  If you’ve been training at another CrossFit facility or with a strength and conditioning coach and you would like to join group CrossFit classes at Mad Dawg School of Fitness, please call or email to schedule a Personal Training session with either Susan or Saul. In this session, we’ll do the Functional Movement Screen, which we require of all of our athletes; this allows us to identify an athlete’s movement patterns and gives us the opportunity to personalize your training so that you can get the most out of the group classes.

You’ll also demonstrate the Front Squat, Back Squat, Overhead Squat, Deadlift, Press, Push Press, and Push Jerk.  The $85 fee for this personal training session will be credited to your first purchase of classes at Mad Dawg School of Fitness.

I train at another CrossFit facility and am traveling through town. Can I drop in on a class?

We do not accept drop ins. However, if you do have previous CrossFit experience you may give us a call or send us an email and let us know what day you would like to come in. We’ll evaluate your preparedness for the CrossFit classes and if we believe your skill and capacity are adequate, you will be able to begin attending classes immediately. Our traveling CrossFitter rate is $20/class.

How long will it take for me to progress to the All Levels or the Elite Level?

That depends entirely on you, your level of commitment, and what you’re bringing to the game on day one. Someone who eats a healthy, high protein/vegetable/fat diet and who has an athletic background can progress through the different levels in very short order. For the de-conditioned, untrained, or the high-carb cardio athletes out there… it’s going to take longer! You will need to modify your nutrition and let go of some old habits if you want to streamline this process and optimize your results.
