3. Lift and drag a 165-pound dummy 32 feet
4. 500 yard run
After all 4 events are completed, the points are added. Passing is 318.
Another customer, Katie, an LEO in Daly City, taught her how to climb the 6 foot solid wall at the Police Academy at CSM. Thanks Katie!
Here is Hilary’s email regarding the physical agility test day:
AMAZING!
So I’ll start from the beginning. There were 150 people and only 6 women. At the beginning they told us that the Sept Academy is basically full but they are looking for 5 or 6 superstars. We were broken up into two groups one would be taking the written and the other would start with the agility. I really wanted to get the agility over with but I was put in the written test group. I finished my written test in 20 min so I had and hour and 40 minutes to kill until lunch and then after a 30 min lunch I would have my agility test. I saw the Captain and the Sergent watching a group do the wall so I walked over to them and asked if I could join them while they watched. The Captain and I ended up talking and he was asking me all kinds of questions about my background and was giving me a great opportunity to have one on one time with him. He then took me around to all of the tests and gave me tips on how to best complete each one and what they are looking for.
When it was finally my time to do the physical the Captain followed my group and around and watched me do ALL of my events. We started with the obstacle course and it was a place where people really lost points (you need 318 points to pass) they give you an average time and a time to shoot for to increase the points. The average time was 22 seconds and the obstacle and I did it in 19.5, 6 seconds faster than the other woman in my group. The next was the 500 yard run which was worth the fewest points the average time was 120 seconds and I did it in 119(just where I wanted to be). Next was the wall which was really messing people up that day, one guy blew out his knee. We had to get over it and sprint 75 yards the average time was 7-10 seconds my first attempt I did 13 seconds and my second 11 seconds so I was in range. The other woman did it in 16 seconds. One of the 6 women did not get over it at all and was disqualified. Lastly, we did the dead drag. Men were to average around 7 seconds and women were considered outstanding if they did it in 12 seconds. I did it in 5. The other woman couldn’t move it and was disqualified.
At the end of the day, I went to see what my agility score was to make sure I was over the 318. I asked the proctor and the Captain came over put his hand on my shoulder and said “Don’t’ worry Hilary I know your score, you did 382, 400 is considered very good for women” I thanked him for his time and one on one attending and he said he always takes time out for outstanding candidates. He then told me he was going to go through my paper work and that he and I would be speaking soon. I talked the Sergent and thanked him for his time and he said “oh yeah, we will definitely be talking soon”
I am so excited! Thank you so much! I owe so much of this to you because I was so comfortable doing the exercises and I was so proud when I blew the other guys out of the water with my drag.
GREAT JOB Hillary!
Right on, Hilary. Keep up with the training and good luck with the rest of the process to get hired.
Nice job! Keep it up.
As an aside, why do I get the feeling that workout will make its way to the board sometime soon???
Great job Hilary. I'll be attending the Academy in September also. Good luck!
