Many people are interested in having a Tahoe trip. This post is to start the conversation. There are two ideas for the trip, the first is a backcountry lodge: Lost Trail Lodge or the standard cabin or condo in Truckee or South Lake Tahoe. Because I am getting started late, the trip will probably be in early spring (many places need 4 weeks or at least 2 weeks of lead time). I just got an email from Lost Trail Lodge, they are super quick to respond. They have three cabins available on the following days:
Sunday, March 2 – Thursday, March 6
Sunday, March 9 – Thursday, March 13
Tuesday, March 18 – Thursday, March 20
Sunday, March 23 – Tuesday, March 25
Friday, March 28
I can only get away for two nights Sunday and Monday are best for me. These cabins are probably wood stove-heated and with no bathrooms in the room.
The Lost Trail Lodge involves a 4 mile snowshoe/ski in and out. I think there may be a snowmobile drive in but I don’t know for sure. It should take about 2 hours of less. Check the website, you can pack light but you will have to carry some gear. I will go the week before so at least one person will know the route and we will be traveling as a group using common backcountry safety precautions; however, before choosing this option, know that you are responsible to know the route and be responsible for your safety.
Whichever location we choose, we will probably have to do this as a group, I don’t think any of us has time to organize this by themselves. Some people will be in charge of activities, food, transportation, etc.
Please post your opinion or suggestions.
