As noted before, the Paleo/Zone Diet Challenge starts at midnight this eve. Take time to plan your meals. I just made my plan, post yours to the comments. You will notice that I use coconut oil to cook with rather than canola or olive oil. Coconut oil is not officially on the Paleo Diet as far as I can tell. However, I cook with it because other oils can get rancid when heated and coconut oil oxidizes at a higher temperature rate. I don’t consider this cheating because the point of this challenge, as stated before, is not about weight loss it is about health and awareness of your eating habits. Finally, and probably most importantly, the more I learn about nutrition, the more exceptions I see; however, there is still quite a bit of overlap on the basics which is quiet simply stated in Michael Pollan’s Unhappy Meals:
Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly plants.
Don’t get caught up in the details, it is less important what oil you stir-fry your veggies in, than that you are eating stir-fry veggies. There will be a time when we will focus on the gory details, now is not the time. Give yourself a break, stop eating the crappiest foods, build the habits necessary to cook and eat fresh, healthy foods under a variety of situations. We’ll go from there.
Chris, passed on this very interesting article by Clarance Bass. I don’t know that I would eat the same thing every day but reducing your choices, at least for the first few weeks until you clean up your diet, would be a huge step in the right direction.
