Mad Dawg Open – Saturday, July 30 2

A few months ago, we had a mock weightlifting meet to prepare for the NorCal Open at FIT in Los Altos. We had a such a great time that many of the athletes requested that we do another one.

Please join us on Saturday, July 30 from 9 AM to 12 PM (or so). This is an unsanctioned meet but we will follow the majority of USAW rules (see below).

What to expect:

  • The cost is $15/per athlete.
  • Participation is limited to 20 athletes. We already have 4 signed up so there are 16 spaces left. Either sign up at the gym or send saul (at maddawgfitness.com) an email. If you sign up and then cannot attend, please let me know because we are probably going to be at full capacity.
  • Familiarize yourself with USAW rules, it will help reduce the confusion on meet day.
  • The only USAW rules that we will not follow are those regarding clothing. You are free to wear shorts and t-shirts but they can not cover knees nor elbows and should be close-fitting to help with judging.
  • This meet is specifically targeted towards beginners (however, experienced lifters are encouraged to attend). As such, before lifting, we will explain the flow of the meet, some of the basics of strategy and timing your warm-up.
  • If you are an experienced lifter, be prepared to help newbies. If you are a newbie, this is your chance to get your feet wet before some of the competitions this fall.
  • A BBQ with paleo-ish burgers and beer will be served immediately afterwards.

Timeline:
8:30 – 9:00 AM: Weigh-in
9:00 – 9:15 AM: Athletes meeting and final schedule for the meet
9:15 – 9:45 AM: Rules, strategy, and warming up.
9:45 – 10:10 AM: Snatch

15 min break then C & J

Volunteers: In a word, yes, please, thank you. If you don’t want to lift, we could use your help, if only to cheer the lifters. We will need some help with loading the bar, as well as, an expediter (someone who will help newbies get warmed up correctly). A video or computer person would be really helpful. Also, some help getting the BBQ ready would be awesome. Do I have to mention clean up?

Post your questions and comments. Looking forward to a great afternoon of lifting.

This is really worth attending, everyone – even if you’re not lifting. You’ll learn a lot about how to lift by watching. And I guarantee, you’ll be a better oly lifter for the time you spend watching (and learning).
